What is Montessori?
Montessori was inspired by Dr Maria Montessori in the early 1900s and is now the world’s largest global education movement. It is used and acclaimed in 600 UK schools & 22,000 worldwide and continues to influence “mainstream” educationalist thinkers everywhere.
Montessori isn’t just for pre-school children. Some UK schools take children up to 11 years.
Montessori is holistic in approach and focuses on the individual child – allowing them to develop at their own pace. It is backed by the Government’s Early Years Foundation Stage.
Montessori children have a high level of cognitive attainment at age 5 – above the national average. They also show strong levels of positive social and behavioral development in all areas.
What is a foundation degree?
A Foundation degree is practical in nature and offers an excellent way to combine critical thinking and academic skills with practical hands on experience. It provides an experience equivalent to the first two years at university – but also stands alone as a qualification in its own right. It provides a base to progress further with a recognized route to degree level.

The Montessori Centre International foundation degree, developed with and validated by London Metropolitan University is a vocationally based level 5 qualification. It combines the best of London Metropolitan’s Early Childhood Studies with Montessori pedagogy for working with children from birth to seven.
It is designed to develop high levels of professional competence in students wishing to become Montessori teachers & aspiring to achieve a full BA (Hons) Degree in Early Childhood Studies.
