Now I’m doing a degree and there’s not a student loan in sight
I’ve known since I was a teenager that I wanted to run my own business, so when all my friends went away to university (and prepared to get themselves into lots of debt), I decided to look for alternatives that would give me the time to set up my business while I studied and gave money worries a miss.
One of the things I searched for online was ‘debt free degrees’ and found The Open University. I didn’t know much about them, so I decided to do a three-month ‘Openings’ course to see if it was right for me before committing to something longer.
Now I’m doing my degree in Business Studies and loving every minute. And from what I hear from my mates, I get more one to one time with a tutor than they do at their universities. It’s not the typical student lifestyle, but it’s a great feeling to be in control of when and where you study.
I’ve got to say that the best thing for me is simply not racking up loads of debt on the way to my degree. I really feel like I’ve got a head start over everyone else!
