admin-apprenticeships

Ever thought you could be that person you see on TV, bossing and organising everyone around in the office- making sure everything is running smoothly?! Well starting a business administration apprenticeship could be your fast track to become just that!

What’s it about?

Administrators are of massive importance to businesses and without them, the business would be tatters with levels of production being at rock bottom.  The job role of an administrator can cover a vast amount of positions, including; executive assistants, administration assistants, secretaries, personal assistants, data entry clerks, office managers and office juniors. You could be responsible for a number of operations involved with the business, whether that be overseeing your companies billion-pound transaction with a rich and powerful tycoon, typing up an emergency board meeting document or simply making orders to ensure the business has an endless supply of pens with the company’s name on them.

An apprenticeship programme will allow you the opportunity to mix with a real life organisation where you will learn essential skills that no amount of educational courses can give you. You’ll have hands on experience and see how the real world of business works and this opportunity will put you on the foot of a ladder which in no time you’ll be climbing up.

Who’s it for?

You need to be an incredibly responsible, reliable and hard working person if you want a career in this industry. You can’t just expect to hide in the background, sitting at your computer on Facebook all day- as administrators are some of them most important people involved in a business and many people will be looking to you, to get jobs done which are essential to keep the business running slickly… You’ll soon realise that higher up members of staff will reply on you, to do their job for them!

You need bags of enthusiasm and must make sure your organised and pay attention to detail. It also wouldn’t hurt if you have a good telephone manner because you may be entrusted to answer the phone to many important clients and put them through to whichever executive they need to liaise with.

Administrators also need to be able to stay calm under pressure which will allow you to show off your written and communication skills which you’ll also need if you want to make it.

What do I get out of it?

Administrators are always in demand for businesses and once you are qualified, you can expect a starting salary between £12k-£18k depending on the industry and location in the UK. There are two levels of apprenticeship available: Apprenticeship and Advanced Apprenticeship. Both frameworks generally incorporate nationally recognised qualifications such as the Business & Administration NVQ, Key Skills and Technical Certificate.

Afterwards, there are a number of jobs available at entry level and the even better news is that the skills you will inevitably pick up and nurture are all transferable to other areas of business and you can soon find yourself being promoted to higher up departments of the company.

You’ll be in charge in no time!
