I’m Craig, in mid thirties, after finishing my Honours Degree in Product design. I had ideas of ending up being the next Philip Stark, however the only thing I found was a stark design job market.
When not studying or in the student union bar I spent the summer holidays refilling the pubs as a Drayman for local brewery. It was hard physical work moving Barrels and Kegs about….some might say karma for the amount of time I spent in the student bar.
I carried on working with the local brewery after Uni working my way up from Drayman to Warehouse manager, Operations Manager and eventually Project Manager. By then I decided it was time to leave and try my hand at other things which lead working for a computer games company for a while before joining the Merchant Navy as a recruitment officer. This involved undertaking marketing activities along with selection and interviewing for over 200 cadets positions each year. Really enjoyed my time in this role meeting lots of people from diverse backgrounds hearing their stories of why they wanted to go to sea. Mostly from people that had degrees then struggled to find employment in chosen field….I can identify with that.
Then I found Tom and Spencer at notgoingtouni.co.uk and I was inspired by their enthusiasm for showing young people that you can get on in the work place without having to go down the traditional University route and getting yourself into debt to boot. So I decided to jump ship…..pun intended and work helping young people on a bigger scale.
